About Douglasville, GA

Douglasville is the county seat of Douglas County, located in the Atlanta metropolitan area. It is one of the fastest-growing cities in Georgia with a population of 27,568 in 2005. The city of Douglasville is about 20 miles from downtown Atlanta and only 10 minutes west of theme park, Six Flags Over Georgia.  Douglasville is home to Georgia's 4th-largest shopping mall.

Recreation

Douglasville is home to 7 city parks, the largest being Hunter Park, which houses the Douglas County Boys & Girls Club. The park also hosts festivals, sports activities and recreation programs. The park has a swimming pool, playground, wildlife pond and trail. The Sweetwater Creek State Park is a 2,549-acre park in the city with 9 miles of wooded trails along a stream. The park envelops a 215-acre lake with a playground, 11 picnic shelters, a visitor center, a museum, and two fishing docks with canoe and boat rentals. Program guides with events planned throughout the year are provided for residents.  Events include year-round concerts, Summer Arts and Crafts Festival, Pioneer Preview with Cow Camp Cooking & Cowboy Music, and Candlelight Tour of Homes.

Attractions

Downtown Douglasville is home to the Douglas County Cultural Arts Center, which outside of displaying art shows also hosts special events such as weddings and school events. The 7 Venue is also in the city and is home to two stages for Christian music. Most performers are Christian metal and Christian metalcore bands such as Norma Jean and Uprising. Le Jardin Blanc is a great place to stop for a dress-up party on a sunny Saturday afternoon. High tea is served with mouth-watering treats and a variety of teas made especially for the estate. Everything is served on antique china and crisp linens.

Education

The Douglas County School System provides the city with quality education for all students in a safe and supportive environment. The district operates 30 schools and a performance learning center. The district enrolls about 25,000 students. Within 50 miles of the city there are 35 colleges, universities and other institutions of higher education. Among these schools are Columbia Theological Seminary in DeKalb County, Emory University in Fulton County, and Westcentral Technical College in Haralson County.
